Google’s Chrome 67 allows for “password-free sign-ins” for many websites

A stable Google Chrome 67 update has been made available for Windows, MAC, and Linux operating systems. With the recent Google Chrome browser update, the web browser is now making it easier for users to return to their favorite websites and log-in without entering their information each time. Chrome 67 is the latest version of the browser just released by Google and thanks to a new standard for web technologies it can give users ease of access.

A report from The Verge indicates that “password-free” sign-ins (and sign-ups) have been enabled for the new Chrome browser on “most websites.” The Verge says that Mozilla Firefox was the first to adopt the Web Authentication standard which was first launched this past March. Thanks to that standard, Google was able to integrate the password-free feature onto the newest Chrome 67 version for desktop users.

There are some other interesting aspects being integrated into the Chrome 67 browser. One of those aspects will help to increase site isolation. This means that users operating the browser with multiple tabs open at once won’t have to worry that one site accesses data from another on their open tabs.

In addition, it’s been suggested that Google is looking to have other gadgets associated with the desktop browser. For example, it’s reported by Verge that Chrome will have better compatibility with virtual reality using the Generic Sensor API. This standard has been used in many VR headsets and fitness trackers that are available today.

As ZDNet reported, the concept behind Chrome 67 and other browsers using “password-free” methods for website sign-ins, or sign-ups, is to allow users a way to access websites using fingerprints, facial images, or USB keys to authenticate their login.

In addition to the previously mentioned browser updates and features, Google also has fixed a total of 34 security bugs present in the previous version of the browser. Nine of those were classified as “high-severity flaws,” with 12 considered “medium-severity.” The flaws were initially reported by external researchers to help Google make the browser more secure.

Google planning to challenge iPhone X with new Pixel 3 phones this year

Google is looking to ramp up its competition in the smartphone market as they directly challenge Apple’s iPhone X. Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, has said they are planning two new models for release later in 2018. These will be the anticipated Google Pixel 3 smartphones with a few interesting new updates.

As Bloomberg reported via sources familiar with the subject on Wednesday, the newest Google smartphones are expected to be called the “Pixel 3” and “Pixel 3 XL.” The larger of the two phones, the XL model, will feature a thicker bezel at the bottom of the screen which will be almost “edge-to-edge.” In addition, it will feature a notch, something many of the smartphone manufacturers have been using in their designs. Meanwhile, the Pixel 3 models will be similar in terms of their visual presentation to the Pixel 2. That means no edge-to-edge look or notch included on the Pixel 3 phone.

Google’s latest smartphones will also arrive just after Apple unveils its newest iPhone models. It’s expected that Apple will release a new lower-cost model of the iPhone, as well as two other phones: a new size iPhone X and a 6.50-inch screen size phone. Details of the what all the newest iPhones will include are still scarce despite plenty of speculation on the internet.

The news of Google’s latest updated model of their Pixel phone shows that the company is continuing to try to battle with market leaders Apple and Samsung. Both companies have sold many more units than Google’s phones, despite the fact that the Google phones have been given heaps of praise as some of the best Android model phones available today.

It’s being said that once again Verizon Wireless Inc. will serve as the exclusive cellular carrier for the latest Pixel phones in the United States. The new Pixel 3 model smartphones are expected to be unveiled in October of this year with prices and more specific details expected to come in the months leading up to release.

Google Cloud Efforts in Enterprise Business Expansion to Rival Microsoft and Amazon

In a bid to keep up with Microsoft’s Azure and Amazon’s AWS, Google has entered into a deal with Cask Data in its development of more enterprise business for its Google Cloud. Google has been trailing the two concerning usage among organizations and in revenues. Cask Data is a Palo Alto startup that provides Hadoop-based services and solutions to big data analytics. Recently, Google acquired an Israel startup, Velostrata which offers services to businesses in running and migrating data and applications among other IT across hybrid environments and in the cloud.

Announcing the news, Cask Data co-founders Nitin Motgi and Jonathan Gray said the startup would carry on with it support services on current products and customers. Cask Data main product is Cask Data Application Platform (CDAP), which the company says will continue to be developed and released. CDAP helps businesses build and run big day solutions in a simple way, and Google confirmed it would keep it an open source.

Google is looking to making the open source a bigger project primarily to the broader developer audiences. With the deal, Google will enhance its efforts in making developers more productive using Google data processing services on-premise and in the cloud. There is more on this deal which can be accessed from https://techcrunch.com/2018/05/16/google-acquires-cask-data-to-beef-up-its-tools-for-building-and-running-big-data-analytics/

Hadoop platform is vital in data management across multiple locations providing significant data analytics services. Cask Data have developed an additional layer which enabled Hadoop-run deployments to do so more efficiently. With the CDAP framework, businesses significantly reduce their time when coming up with big data analytics for performing duties such as security reporting, migrating and reading big data sets, social media monitoring, and streaming, among other jobs.

What Google is doing is adopting more enterprises, adding more tools and attracting more clients to expand Google Cloud business boundaries. Based on the fact that most businesses continue to use hybrid and on-premise architectures, Google Cloud has some competitive chances to grab some of them from rivals.

Google “Pausing” Allo

Google has announced that its messaging app called Allo is being “paused.”

Anil Sabharwal, who is the new head of the company’s communication group, said that not only was the company pausing Allo, but that all its personnel would now be working on a different messaging app called Android Messages. Some analysts believe that Google needs as many resources as possible on Messages to make sure that it is ultimately successful.

In effect, Allo suffered from a lack of users, making it an ineffective competitor against the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Sabharwal indicated that the app simply did not gain enough traction among users. At least not as much as they had hoped. They thought — when they started developing the app — that they would be building something that millions of people would not only use but get excited about. But he said that at this point the company does not see the app being on that kind of trajectory.

For those who use and depend on Allo, all is not lost. The app will still work, and Google is even saying that it will support it in some undefined way. The company actually has not made a final decision about what it will do with Allo, if anything. Sabharwal said that they wanted to be fair to users of the app, and that they did not want to make any rash decisions about it at the moment. Though, he added, the company had immediate needs when it came to Android Messages, and that is why they made the move.

For those who use Duo, which is a video chatting app Google launched at the same time that it launched Allo, the news is better. The company says that it is satisfied with how Duo has grown. The app, which is available for both Android and iOS, is steadily gaining users. As long as this continues into the future, the company will continue to develop it.

Shervin Pishevar Anticipates a Dark Future for the US Economy

In the year 2008, Shervin Pishevar correctly anticipated that Facebook would go through an eventual crisis. That prediction came true. It seems like he has a knack for predicting the future. He made recent forecasts about the future of the US economy in a 21 hour tweet rant that had 50 separate points about why the US economy was in such a bad state and why the stock market would go down an aggregate 6,000 points in the months ahead.

Shervin Pishevar is a well-known super angel investor. He got his start in Silicon Valley and was one of the first to invest in Uber. He helped to start Sherpa Capital, which not only invested in Uber, but was also an early investor in Airbnb and Munchery, among other companies. At the end of 2018, Shervin Pishevar used his Twitter account to announce that he would be resigning from Sherpa Capital. It wasn’t until the beginning of February that he was heard from again.

Shervin Pishevar made 50 tweets all addressing why the US economy was headed downward. In a couple of tweets, he did have some positive things to say about certain companies, like one that he founded called Virgin Hyperloop One. He also said that SpaceX, a company founded by Elon Musk, was also a moonshot that he anticipates will do well.

One of the ominous forecasts he made is about giant companies in the United States, like Amazon and Google. He says that they are monopolies that are built on a framework that will experience a possible downfall. He said that small towns are just waiting for offices from big companies to open up in their towns, but the fact that they can buy out all small businesses is not good for growth in the US economy. He said it is like when a forest burns down and makes way for new trees. He says it is just how evolution works.

Shervin Pishevar made these predictions after the stock market experienced a dramatic dip in the beginning of February 2018. He basically says that this is just the beginning and that the market will continue to go down by thousands of points in the months to come.

Google Chrome Ad Wars

One of the most frustrating things about surfing online and visiting various sites is the number of popup ads and other ads that pop up out of the blue and make visiting certain websites a very frustrating and annoying experience. Over the last few years, the experiences with pop up ads and other types of ads has escalated to a frightening point. Enter Google to the rescue. Google recently announced that Google Chrome will stop showing certain annoying ads, even the one’s that were produced or served by Google. Only time will tell if this is true.

The Date Is Set
For a long time, Google was kind of sketchy about the date that the Google Chrome Ad-Blocker would go into effect. However, they recently revealed that the date is set for February 15, 2018. The real deal is that Google is going to remotely transform Chrome Browsers into automatic ad blocking machines for their users. However, the word is that this is a function that will only be available to a select few users.

Banned Ads
Those that have been on the Internet for a decade or longer, probably remember the early ads that seriously interfered with browsing a website. Flashing banner ads would pop up along with irritating sounds and full page ads that would not go away, unless the visitor clicked on the ad. The Better Ads Program changed that through the development of a set of standards that must be followed by those producing or distributing ads online. Now, Google is stepping up the game too. Google Chrome will remove all ads that violate The Better Ads Program Standards. This is something to watch. Pulling ads will certainly diminish ad profits for violators.

A Better Ad Blocker
Google’s Chrome Ad Blocker is thought to be a better ad blocker. It is thought that other third party ad blockers block all ads, even those that are not violating ad rules and regulations. The Google Chrome Ad Blocker is able to differentiate between violators and non-violators.

Google Announces Fast Pair Technology That Makes Connecting Gadgets Simpler

Many smartphone owners now use wireless audio devices like headphones and speakers to listen to music. This has prompted tech giant Google to look for a way that would make pairing the external devices with a mobile phone faster, more reliable and simpler for the user.

According to the company, a new process called Fast Pair is the solution. It allows smartphone users to hook up their audio devices without having to fumble through Bluetooth settings. The connection still uses Bluetooth to make audio devices interact with the phone during use, but relies on the newer Blueooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to discover them.

It’s likely that one of the main motivations behind the development of Fast Pair is Google’s desire to compete with Apple when it comes to making wireless headphones easier to pair with Android-based smartphones. Apple’s wireless AirPods headphones have a small chip embedded within to simplify the task of connecting them to an iPhone.

The process of using Fast Pair is fairly simple. The Android operating system scans the area close to a user’s phone for any Fast Pair-compatible devices that are in pairing mode. Once a Fast Pair packet is discovered, it gets sent to Google’s servers, which send information including the name of the product, its image and its companion app if there is one. Next, the user will receive a notification on their screen with this information and can simply tap on it to begin the pairing process. Classic Bluetooth is then used to complete the connection.

Currently, the only devices which support Fast Pair are the Libratone Q Adapt On-Ear headphones and Google’s Pixel Buds. The list of devices supporting the technology is expected to grow in the near future, as Google is working closely with manufacturers of various mobile phone accessories. In addition to audio devices like headphones and speakers, Fast Pair will likely be made available with other accessories like wearable tech and external keyboards.

Google Glass Is Back

The good news is that Google Glass is back. However, the bad news is that the glass reboot is designed to fit the needs of business and is not for public consumption. Certainly, a lot of controversy surrounded the first release of Google Glass. The number one issue was an invasion of privacy and the glasses were kind of pricey at $1,500 each. Google Glass simply did not catch on with the average consumer. However, workers found that the glasses were beneficial on the job.

What’s New With Google Glass
The Google Glass is still in production and aimed at making the average business more productive and efficient. Major corporations to medical institutions rave about the glasses. Some of the organizations boasted about a 50 percent increase in production that was due to using the Google Glasses. The new Google Glass features a new design and includes new hardware. It’s also interesting to note that the new design is also much lighter. Thus, making it easier to wear the product comfortably for a much longer time. The increased battery life should also make the product very attractive to even more organizations that would like to improve work flow and production.

Alphabet X is the production team behind the upgraded and improved design of the Google Glass. The fact is that the product has earned a very well respected place in the work-environment. It has improved work production and work flow in in high management to industrial work. Now, Google is in the process of hiring developers to design new applications for the new and improved version of Google Glasses.

Google Glass Isn’t Dead, Just Repurposed

Back in 2013, the first edition product of the much-lauded and highly debated Google Glass project was made available to the public. Google Glass Explorer Edition was a fascinating piece of tech — resembling standard eyeglasses, these virtual reality accessories displayed hands-free information in a format similar to smartphones, allowing the wearer to use voice commands or the side touchpad, and came equipped with a camera capable of recording both images and video.

The $1,500 price tag, functionality issues, overall impracticality of the device, and privacy concerns due to the camera led to Google closing down the project, with vague claims of redesigning the gear from scratch and a promise not to release the new version until it was perfect. That was in early 2015. Now, Google has come through on that promise — but in a completely unexpected way.

Introducing the Glass Enterprise Edition.

Unlike its predecessor, the new Google Glass device is not available to consumers. Google’s new design has repurposed the Enterprise Edition to provide functionality for a wide range of business and industry, from warehouses to automobile factories to health care.

With the release of the device, Google revealed that the new edition of Glass has been designed to not only be more comfortable for users, with a lightweight yet durable construction built to withstand tough working conditions, but also boasts increased power and a longer battery life.

Alphabet X, the Google branch that has been working in the background to redevelop Google Glass, has been steadily beta testing the device under actual working conditions. Companies such as Tesla and Boeing received early versions of the next-generation edition, and as of the recent public announcement, more than 50 companies are currently using Glass Enterprise Edition.

The reinvented Glass is already delivering results for these companies. For example, agricultural manufacturing giant AGCO has used the device to reduce production times by 25 percent, while healthcare professionals have reported that doctors are able to spend up to 50 percent more time with their patients due to paperwork reductions.

While there seem to be no current plans for a new public offering of Google Glass, the device is now being offered to more businesses throughout the country.

Google Glass is Back With a New Market

Google Glass initially launched in 2014, after a prototype was made available to select people in 2013. It was not long before the product came under scrutiny. It was heavily criticized for privacy and safety concerns. Within a year of its broader release, the program was shut down.

However, that was not the end for Google Glass. Alphabet X, the branch of Google that created the glasses, has revealed Glass Enterprise Edition. This new version of Google Glass is aimed at companies rather than the general public.

The original glasses featured a touch pad, camera, and liquid crystal display. The privacy concerns came from the use of the camera and the ethics of recording people in public without their knowledge. This is no longer a concern with Glass Enterprise Edition since the plan is for them to be used at work, reducing the amount of paperwork and improving production times. Companies such as GE, DHL, Dignity Health, Volkswagen, NSF International, The Boeing Company, and AGCO have already been using the glasses to great effect.

The new glasses are hands-free, lightweight, and comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. The glasses can be used to provide instructions to workers with visual aids, demonstrate processes with videos, and doctors can use an app within the glasses to take notes while they are talking to patients. GE states that their mechanics’ efficiency has improved by up to 12% since they began using the glasses.

The current plan for the glasses does not include providing them to the general public. They plan on continuing to work with businesses to improve their workers’ abilities to use the glasses to improve their productivity and enhance the workplace.
